Hello!!
I was home educated back in the days before home education was cool. My parents evaluated the public school I would be attending and found several factors against sending me; drug use in 3rd grade, long bus ride, and I was far above the education level of Kindergarten. So, they sent in a mail order coupon for information about Christian Liberty Academy and the school sent us a basic skills test.
I was 5 years old and placed into the third grade immediately. I graduated from high school at age 12. Yes, I skipped 1st grade, 2nd grade, 8th grade, and completed my high school credits in one year.
Awhile ago I was lamenting that I had missed 1st and 2nd grade, so I found Ambleside Online and decided to complete their curriculum. My goal is to be well read. When I was a kid, learning about history, science, and geography was just a chore to be gotten through, Now, as an adult, I have a larger perspective and suddenly these subjects are fascinating.
I admit that I am a little strange in my pursuits. Who at the age of 40 wants to complete the first grade?
This year I am up to third grade and this blog is about my journey. As I said, my curriculum is based on Ambleside and I in no way wish to overstep their wonderful site. This is just a personal journey through third grade from the eyes of an adult.
I have a Bachelor's in Elementary Education, but no teaching license at this time. To get a license requires that I intern for a year for free. I just can't do that and work full-time to support my family.
Besides, I would rather have my own school than deal with public school's regulations and boxes.
